End User Requirements for MDO

MDO supports the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox and MS Edge and we strongly recommend you turn on automatic updates for these browsers. Our releases are tested against the latest browser versions to ensure compatibility, and take advantage of new features and performance gains. From internal testing, we have broken down the requirements into 3 sections to allow for different operating environments below.

Optimal Performance

  • Network latency of 500 ms or less
  • Download speed of 10 Mbps or greater
  • At least 8 GB of RAM, with 3 GB available for your browser tabs

Recommended Requirements

  • Network latency of 500 ms or less

  • Download speed of 5 Mbps or greater

  • At least 8 GB of RAM, with 3 GB available for your browser tabs

Minimum Requirements

  • Network latency of 1000 ms or less

  • Download speed of 3 Mbps or greater

  • At least 4 GB of RAM, with 2 GB available for your browser tabs

MDO at its core processes and presents large data sets, so it follows that network speed is the biggest determinant of a good user experience. On the other hand, network latency has a marginal effect as most of the data processing work is done asynchronously. Similarly, our SaaS product does not rely heavily on the client machine hardware but consideration must be taken into the number of tabs that are open and other applications running in the background.

From our lab tests, we found that the Optimal Performance recommendations have 50% better performance over the Minimum requirements and 20% better performance for the Recommended requirements respectively.

On the hardware side, our benchmark for Optimal Performance allows 3 other applications concurrently running such as email clients, MS Office applications etc. With Minimum requirements, however, running nonconcurrent applications has significant impacts on the performance of the MDO because the RAM allocation is taken up by the operating system and other core functions.
